Contact your Arizona legislators to improve existing anti-bully legislation!
Call to Action: Contact Your State Representatives!
Did you know that Arizona’s anti-bullying laws don’t define harassment or bullying? Arizona laws are weak and don't hold school districts accountable in providing equitable access to safe, bully-free learning environments. Bullying is pervasive throughout our schools and the children in our state are suffering because of it. Parents, community members, and state legislators need to work together to protect our children from the harmful effects of bullying. Contact your Arizona legislator and urge them to bring real legislative improvements to Arizona laws!
From the hot, sparse desert vegetarian to the cool Northern Arizona forests, our state encompasses an array of diverse environments and people. That respect and value of diversity and inclusiveness should also be reflected in our school system and legislation. The existing anti-bullying legislation does not reflect and protect the values of Arizonans.
What improvements need to be made to better protect our youth? Arizona state laws need to clearly define harassment, intimidation, and bullying. Our state is only one of 7 that does not have anti-bully policies in addition to their laws. Improvements to existing legislation should also include cyberbullying and incidents that occur off-campus. Arizona school districts should be required to provide teachers and students with anti-bullying prevention programs and strategies. Legislation should hold school districts financially accountable should they fail to provide a safe, bully-free learning environment for Arizona’s youth.
I’m asking for each of you to invest 3 minutes of your time into defending and protecting the children in Arizona. Visit Member Roster (azleg.gov) and contact the House of Representatives member from your district. You can find your legislator by visiting this website and entering your zip code. Just 3 minutes of your time can make the difference in providing vital legislative support to our education system and children. Let me know how your state representative responds! I'd love to know which legislators are willing to support the children of Arizona!
